SNOWSEEKERS 31st
The snows came to Highland in deer season and the end of 2002 had the forests looking like a winter wonderland. Trails were good, scenery was breath taking, temperature was nice and the riding was great. Snowseeker sledders logged lots of miles in the Allegheny National Forest. Hope they rolled out the groomers at the end of the weekend to assure good riding base.
Jon Stahl, our Snowseeker web-master took time from riding to install a SNO-CAM outside of his mountain home at the Highland. It consists of a pole with depth marks on it, which will be photographed every hour or so to show up-to-the-minute snow depth on the Snowseeker website. If he finished the electric work, it should be up and running. He and his wife Debbie spend lots of time on our site and do a superior job. Lots of times answering e-mail from people with questions and or suggestions, some of which require lengthy answers. Debbie does all this while raising two young daughters and going through chemotherapy and radiation. What a warrior! You humble us with your bravery Deb. John and Debbie also took on this year's Old Forge trip set for the end of January. It is set up to be a tour type week changing locations daily.
Our congratulations go to Lowell and Fred for all the efforts put forth to finally get some monies back to the snowmobile unit from gas tax. We know how long the battle was waged. Hope the governor has signed the bill by the end of December.
To Ken and Maxine Wetzel, a great 3 generations photo in the Keystone Snowmobiler. Gotta be a good feeling for your folks!
A Snowseeker thank you to all of the club and state officers and directors, editors, safety instructors and the dedicated trail coordinators and workers. You are the people who make it work!
A Snowseeker thanks to everyone in the club who takes time and effort to make our stay there more comfortable. I'm talking about the ones that make it all happen, carrying in your share of wood for the fireplace, emptying trash and waste baskets, cleaning dishes, sweeping and even cooking and sharing food, cleaning the garage after working there and those who constantly
resupply towel and tissue holders and a special thanks to those who help close down the clubhouse at the end of weekends when some folks get out of bed and go home leaving all the closing to others. Remember, we are not named the Snowseekers Catering Service. We share in everything, so get off your butt and help a little. It might make you feel good about yourself.
Since our January meeting has been scheduled for the ninth this month, I can't report on it since club news must be in the editor's hand by the tenth.
On a more personal note, thanks to all of you who sent cards, etc. during my hospital stay. We wish a speedy recovery to those of you who are battling cancer, heart, broken bones and cut off fingers. Keep up the good fight, someone has to do it. It's a bummer when they pull your number! Sometimes! Personally, my number got pulled to be sick, then during my recovery, my number came up on the lottery and my Snowseeker gun raffle ticket got me a new Browning over and under shot gun, a rewarding twelve hundred dollar surprise.
It's the weekend of January third now and the snow was there again. Checked out the new Snowseeker snow cam on our site. There appeared on my PC a nice picture of the depth gauge at Highland. It showed the snow to be nine inches deep. John Stahl, our web master, and my son Mark installed a flood light on the depth gauge. Now you can log on at night and see snow conditions. John spent a lot of his own money on this project and is hoping that people who use this site will maybe send contributions to the Snowseekers to help him defray some of his costs. He did the camera, measuring sign, wiring, computer and the lighting along with monthly electric bills it will incur, all out of pocket. I think all of us who benefit from this service should send him some dollars. Any donations can be given or sent to Snow Cam c/o Joni Eastley at 3132 Hearts Run Road, Allison Park, PA 15101. Thank you in advance. I just printed a picture of the current reading. Who added the Steeler helmet on top? Pretty neat since they defeated the Browns yesterday in playoff. Hope Henry can put this picture page in the Keystone Snowmobiler when he publishes this article.

SNOW CAM
Highland Corners, Allegheny National Forest, near Timberline Trail Head Cam is working.
5 minutes between each picture upload. This page will automatically refresh in 246 seconds.
Past 4 hours of Snow Cam pictures.
Trail conditions, hot line numbers, temperature readings, etc.
We will be installing a dusk to dawn light so you can see this at nighttime. We only have one phone line, so if we are up riding, the Snow Cam will not be getting updated then. If you would like to make a donation to our club to support his, we would appreciate it and will use the funds to pay for this service and install an additional phone line to make sure that this page is always updated. We are also going to install a thermometer when we find one large enough you can read.
